The intercarpal ligaments connect the carpal bones to one another, forming plane synovial joints that allow for additional gliding motion during movement of the radiocarpal joint. Intercarpal articulations can be divided into three sets: the articulations of the distal row of carpal bones, and the articulation of the two rows with each other (known as the midcarpal joint).
